Wildlife

If you’d like to get up close to some of Australia’s most exciting species of wildlife Cape Otway Ocean Lodge is the place for you.

The property is alive with koalas and echidnas, in fact there are so many koalas we guarantee you’ll see them. Occasionally they call in at The Lodge, as if to say hello!

Eastern Grey Kangaroos and three species of wallaby are also regularly seen on the property, and there are great whale-spotting vantage points plus more than 70 varieties of birds.

The largest bird seen is the Wedge-Tailed Eagle and perhaps the smallest is the beautiful and delicate Superb Fairy Wren, with the males in their striking azure plumage during the breeding season.

Resident parrot species include Crimson Rosellas, King Parrots, and Blue-Winged parrots.

Iconic Australian species of birds such as Sulphur-Crested Cockatoos, Yellow-Tailed Black Cockatoos and kookaburras are regularly seen too.

Spotlighting at night is a great way to see nocturnal species such as possums.

The abundant mammal and birdlife on our property keeps lots of our guests fully occupied, but of course we’re right on the doorstep of the Great Otway National Park and the Great Ocean Walk where you can see a whole lot more.
